The three Goldens (two purebreds and one mix) in my life are/were all experts in the art of relaxation. The youngest, Dickens, is working on his master's degree in chillin'.
Same here, my Golden Dox does that often - and since he was a puppy. Highly doubt it has to do with lower-back pain (or any other kind of pain, for that matter). I really think that he's just soooo long, that once he gets his front paws down, he thinks he's already there! Or he just likes the feeling of his ass being supported, lol...
My golden often adopts this same position, sometimes for fairly long periods, like a few minutes. Then she yawns and moves on.
