"Stars must die so that I can live"

A video for those who like to try to ponder the imponderables of the universe.

Created and narrated by philhellenes.  Music from John Murphy's The Surface of the Sun (see also my post on the movie "Sunshine.")

Via Zepfanman, where there is a longer version of the video, and a transcription of the text.

Reposted from 2010 to add credits.  And reposted again in 2016 because deep space is still awe-inspiring.

  1. Space is awesome. I believe the music is "Sunshine (Adagion in D Minor)" by John Murphy from the film of the same name. Also used to great effect in the movie Kick-Ass.

  2. I remember seeing the movie years ago. I'll try to blog a video in a couple days.

    Tx for the heads-up.

  3. It's interesting that you posted this now because I'm midway through 'A Short History Of Nearly Everything' by Bill Bryson and the first chapter is all about how mindblowingly unfathomably big the universe really is. It really is fascinating.

  4. Was that human figure Roy Batty from Blade Runner?

  5. Is indeed Sue!

Batty: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.. Time to die."

Awesome video, mirrors my own sense of wonder. Need to get my telescope out of the city someday..
