Does anyone know what this is/where this is??
Image tracked to here, but I can't decipher any of the accompanying text, and haven't found the photo elsewhere using a reverse image search engine.
Are these pits natural formations? remnants of ancient mining or occupation? vandalism by treasure-seeking "potholers?"
Update - Thanx to Shepdi, aviatrix, and MJ for recognizing this as an aerial view of the residual effects of WWII shelling at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy. Impressive.
Addendum - Good pictures here (thanx, Larry Ray).

Normandy is my guess
ReplyDeleteMy guess is based on this picture I took at Normandy in 2005.

Agreed - Nomandy. The craters are from the shelling of the beach/area.
ReplyDeleteSpecifically: Pointe du Hoc in Normandy.
ReplyDeleteIt's Pointe du Hoc (west of Omaha Beach) in Normandy and the holes are bomb (shelling) craters from D-Day.
ReplyDeleteMore on it @ wikipedia:

The Japanese accompanying the picture does not identify it--it only regards adding comments.
ReplyDeleteGood photos, including ones that show the small rounded stone formation at the very tip at:
