"Things You Wouldn't Know If We Didn't Blog Intermittently."
I'd expect more accidents from people distracted by trying to read the details of the sign.
I would expect more accidents caused by distracted drivers trying to read all the info on the sign.
At least they appear numerate. How about this...http://www.localschoolsnetwork.org.uk/2011/06/ofsted-wants-all-schools-to-be-above-average/from our Minister for Edumification. Yeah, OK, so strictly you can have more than half a population "above average" depending on what flavour of average you use, but this man is a constant thorn in the sides of hard-working teachers.
What the?....Surely not
I'm never texting in schoolzones but I spend more time than I should reading these stupid signs, checking my clock, staring at my speedometer, or trying not to duck when the officer with the radar gun jumps out. Off topic - Why ARE radar guns radar GUNS? Why not radar boxes or radar balls? To me this is reckless, if not stupid. Does nobody else freak out when someone dressed in black is aiming something at them from behind a bush or sign?
Not me - though there was a bloke some years ago in the UK prosecuted for standing by the roadside in a yellow fluorescent jacket pointing a hair-dryer at passing cars because he was fed up with them not slowing down to pass through the village. The judge threw it out, saying that he couldn't have been impersonating a policeman as policemen didn't point hair-dryers at motorists.
Ha Ha. Good on him...and the judge!
This ridiculous sign sent me to our provincial government website to see the exact times our zones are in effect as the general practice, and what was the law when I got my driver's license (many moons ago) is to observe the speed limit during the day on weekdays, I remember it being 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. I was surprised to learn that, "The speed limit in a school zone is 30 km/h unless otherwise posted and is in effect on school days from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. unless other times are posted." I feel the former is simpler and I don't know who is so afraid of loosing 10 seconds out of their day that they would eagerly check their watch to see if they could go 20 km/h faster for a block.
Why is the 3rd sign a different shade of white? Also the perspective is off for the bottom sign. Fake.
I did some checking and found this comment -"School address is "1450 Bogie Lake Rd White Lake, MI 48383"'. Go to that address in google maps and you will see the road sign."I don't have time to check, but you're welcome to...
Because the signs are different ages, and signs can get put up at an angle, or get knocked wonky.
Fake. I went to Google maps and looked it up. There is no sign anything like that in front of the school. Besides, the times are really weird. The two or three minutes before or after the hour is just over-the-top ridiculous. Here, in my area of Texas, many of the school zones have speed limit signs with flashing lights. The speed limit is in effect only when the lights are flashing. Very convenient except on school holidays that have not been programmed into the lights.
NOT FAKE. I found it on my fourth click after getting to street view. Yellow top sign, then speed limit 25. It's on the curve of the road just before you get to the school, with trees behind it. The embed photo appears to be a composite of photos of the sign and the school, but the sign is not fake.
You're right that there is a sign there, that looks very similar to the one in the picture. However, it's way too blurry to make out the text. The 3rd sign down in the Google maps image also looks much smaller than in this picture. It seems more likely to me that someone found a picture of a similar-looking sign and photoshopped in the crazy times.
I get very annoyed when people assume that anything they see on the 'net has to be Photoshopped. Here's a report (with a photo) from the local newspaper, forcryinoutloud.http://www.theoaklandpress.com/articles/2012/02/14/news/doc4f3a9b01c0115536425773.txtAnd here's a report of how the school later changed the sign in response to criticism and complaints -http://www.theoaklandpress.com/articles/2012/02/16/news/local_news/doc4f3d4a6816921091129912.txtGood enough ??
And btw, it took me less than five minutes to find both those articles. You could have done the same. Learn to use the google-thingy.
