Great, the spider in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie was a real creature after all. Just what I needed to know. Yeesh.
I've only heard them called 'whip scorpion,' and the first time I saw one was the first and last time I watched Fear Factor. I vaguely remember it being a casino-themed episode, but vividly remember watching a woman eating one of these beasts.
There is a difference between whip spider/scorpions like this-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whip_spiderand the critters more commonly called whip scorpions -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whip_scorpion
