This has to be a record for car ownership. Allen Swift from Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, received this Rolls-Royce Picadilly P 1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it until October 2005 when he died at the age of 102.Via The Presurfer.
Good grief! How in blazes does one get maintenance on a beast like that???

Having grown up across the river from Springfield Ma in Feeding Hills Ma I can attest to the beauty of this car. The originators of the Friendly's restaurant chain had the RR penchant deeeeply each brother (of which there were two) had a RR for each day of the week. Each brother coveted this car till the day they died and hell who wouldn't? That Rolls is what defines a Rolls Royce. in my mind. It was always a treat to see it glide by.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful car and a lovely story. Mr. Swift even looks like my own grandfather, who also lived to be 102.
