A recent article about Bavaria in the
Smithsonian mentioned that the Wittelsbach family ruled that area for
750 years. In this modern era when an 8-year rule seems prolonged and the prospect of a third family member is talked of as an oppressive dynasty, the concept of a family ruling for 750 years seems incredible. (Yes, I know the Wittelsbachs weren't elected...)
