Church takes down "scary crucifix"
St. John's Church in West Sussex has taken down the crucifix which used to be displayed on the outside of the building (additional pix here and here). The dramatic 10-ft image, created in the 1960s and sculpted out of coal ash and resin was "putting people off."
The church now wants to portray "an accurate biblical picture of the crucifixion as a moment of hopefulness for the world, and not one of despair." This new "accurate biblical picture" will be conveyed via a £12,000 stainless steel empty cross of contemporary design.

Jesus was a man that was tortured, beaten, and crucified... yet, people rejoice and use that image as a positive... I don't understand religious people....
ReplyDeleteHis death was never meant to be glorified. And his birthdate was omitted from the Bible so people could NOT celebrate it, it's really not an important day.
ReplyDeleteA lot of so called "religious" people do not base their teachings on the Bible, but on man-made traditions. Mark 7:7,8
They rejoice beacuse he has died but will rise to heaven which is not that strange but i am religous but also u have to remeber that children go to church and uit could scare them
ReplyDeleteand yes it is not always marked on the bible but it is often difficult to understnad the egxact time a celebration was from the bible people says Jesus must have been 2 when the wise men came becasue they moved to egypt becasue the king was trying to kill Jesus but then they moved back after the king killed all boys under two
