This 1966 advertisement, found at
Vintage Ads, brought back strong memories, because when I was in graduate school in the late 60s. the freezer of my apartment was well stocked with these, because they were fast - and cheap. (I believe they sold 3-for-a-dollar at the time...)
Were they actually any good? Competitive with modern TV dinners?
ReplyDelete@JIM...uh,no. Modern T.V. dinners are generally a heck of a lot tastier.
ReplyDeleteI can't say. Since I got married I don't eat TV dinners any more.
ReplyDelete3/$1 is a bit expensive, comparatively. The inflation calculator I used has that at about $6.80 in today's dollars. You can get a tv dinner for $1 in a lot of supermarkets. Though it's about the same as the midrange dinners, I guess...which are about $2-2.50 each.
ReplyDelete???
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you punched in the numbers correctly? I just tried this calculator -

and 33 cents in 1968 translates to $2.01 today.
I love when you post old time-y ads. I have a hard time finding good ones, though I did find an interesting one on youtube advertising cold cream where they put radioactive dirt on a woman's face.
ReplyDeleteYou should try TV dinners -- they're incredible, from the salmon Mediterranean to the Chicken Pad Thai to the Three Layer Enchilada Pie. Of course I haven't tried your wife's cooking, so I can't say.
