A dachshund on wheels

Robert Doisneau: Le Chien a Roulettes (Dog on Wheels), 1977

These dogs are reportedly very prone to degenerative disease of the lower spine.

  1. There's a dachsund on wheels in the Von Igelfeld novels by Alexander McCall Smith. The reasons for its wheels are different - but this kind of surprising contraption must have been the inspiration.

  2. I shared this picture with a friend and was shown this article in return: http://gizmodo.com/5904508/meet-rooseveltthe-bi+pedal-off+roading-border-collie/gallery/1

It's pretty remarkable that a dog will so readily able to adapt to having wheels. That dachshund looks extremely well-adjusted, and the border collie clearly gets around just fine.

  3. so cute -.-

    i like theese picture! XDXDXDXD

  4. I once helped run a youth club for disabled kids in Barnes, London. Several of our members were wheelchair users and one day while we were playing out by the pond a dog like this (a terrier, IIRC) shot past, tipped up onto one wheel to pee on a tree and then joined in the games. The children were thrilled and made firm friends with it, the owner visited quite often after that.
