Posted in part for the history, but even more for the views of the bookstore. I would advise librarians and book lovers to lean back while watching this so that you do not drool on your keyboard.
As to the phrase, it is what we in the US should have said and preached after 911. Instead we got the paranoia of Dick Cheney et al, and two wars we should not have engaged in.
Or at least one war (Iraq) that we should have not engaged in. On another note, it strongly reminds me of my favorite bookstore, Powell's in Portland, Oregon, which has masses of stacks of books going every which way. I wish I lived in Portland, but unfortunately live in Minnesota.
Fascinating piece of history. Charming bookstore. Really enjoyed this. No matter who gets elected, it would probably be good to keep a copy of this poster up here in America.
Barter Books is one of my favourite places. My wife and I spent our first date in that bookshop, revisited it on our first anniversary, and then again on our honeymoon weekend.
Didn't work. Drooled on my shirt instead. Can I just live there, please?
ReplyDeleteI want to go there now. Right now.

ReplyDeleteI live in Portland, and, indeed, Powell's is one of my favorite places. And I think Barter's sounds lovely.
