  1. Interesting, I've never heard the Gouldian called a Rainbow Finch, though I can certainly see why the name came about.

    The linked article forgot to mention one cause of Gouldian Finch decline in the wild, and possibly one of the initial causes: the cagebird industry. The moment these birds were discovered, they were desired as ornaments.

    The photo is clearly of a captive bird, since the palm it's perching on is a popular houseplant species, and not one that grows naturally in Australia. Great photo, though.
