Canadians respond to the hockey loss

  1. If you asked us if we would rather win gold in mens ice hockey at home or keep our health care system, the average Canadian would probably have to think before answering.

  2. I don't know. Canadians come to the US to play hockey. Canadians come to the US for surgery. Seems like we win both to me.

We might lose Health Insurance ... but that's a different discussion.

  3. @Brett - from what i understand, Americans come to Canada and try to scam free surgery all the time! Because they don't understand that our taxes *fund* our health care system. They actually think it's free.

That would not surprise me. I'm a cardiac nurse and I've lost track of the times I've heard patients refer to how those "lucky" Europeans and Canadians get "free" health care.

The idea that adults actually believe that health care is free is amazing. I always want to ask these people if THEY work for free or produce goods they enjoy selling for free.

    Of course not.

But somehow, they actually think that they deserve free work from highly trained and educated health care workers along with free medicine, free use of equipment, and so forth.

Look, there are good and bad with both systems. However, it is noteworthy that the Canadian Premier of Newfoundland recently chose to come to the U.S. for cardiac surgery. For whatever reason, he decided that he couldn't get the quality of care he wanted in Canada.

I guarantee you it is NOT because Canadian doctors are not well-trained and just as intelligent as U.S. doctors.

What's 'free' up here, we are SO over-taxed nothing is actually free, so get over that - the cost is deferred to a social safety net we all pay for but at least care is never denied. Our Health System's more like a big, expensive insurance plan than doesn't dump your butt in a year if you have the misfortune to get very ill.

Good luck to the Americans who get really, really sick because I bet you nobody plans for that & it sucks. And why DO the rich still go there for care? Well - "for-profit" industry still attracts some of the brightest talent, AND doesn't ask you to wait - a no-brainer.

I apologize. I've been working a lot and just came back to the discussion.

You completely misunderstood me. Completely. When I said, "But somehow, they actually think that they deserve free work . . . .", THEY does NOT refer to Canadians!!!!

"They" in that statement refers to stupid US CITIZENS!!!! I'm not criticizing Canadians at all. Canadians can choose whatever system they want - they are free to do that.

I'm simply saying that way, way, way too many U.S. citizens seem to they they are OWED free health care - they don't understand that you Canadians are paying quite dearly for what you have.
