Stoats know how to enjoy life
Today the BBC posted a video of a "snow-crazed stoat" performing remarkable antics in someone's backyard. A search of YouTube suggests that this behavior is not snow-related, and in fact not uncommon among stoats.
Of the videos available, I like the one above for the choice of George Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun" as background music; it's especially pleasant to hear in late winter.
Wikipedia says the Mustelid family (weasel family) has two branches - the subfamily Lutrinae are the otters, and the subfamily Mustilinae includes stoats, mink, weasels, badgers, and even wolverines.
Are they related to otters? This one is so playful, and they do kind of look like otters.

ReplyDeleteSo, yes, they are related.
Absolutely brilliant. What is going through its fierce little mind when it does that? The closest parallel I can come up with is my cat on catnip.
