Retrieval of US Airways flight 1549 from the Hudson
These pictures are part of a set sent to me by a friend whose friend had a friend of a friend working as a crane operator during the plane retrieval. I don't know if these have been posted elsewhere, but the friend of my friend gave permission for me to blog them since they've already been disseminated widely by email.
Apparently the process involves bringing in a large floating platform, then lowering two dollies which are positioned beneath the belly and tail of the plane, then hoisting it onto the platform. The last photos show the damage incurred by the plane.

ReplyDeleteAwesome pics Stan. Totally awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat pilot deserves a lot of praise. Thank God it was him who was flying the plane and not somebody else.
ReplyDeleteBill O'Reilly Lands US Airways 1549.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the excellent mashup. A little too raw for the blog main entry, but I'll leave it here in the comments for others to enjoy.
