I spent a few hours in the woods behind our house today because the spring wildflowers are beginning to bloom. After the trees leaf out only the hosta and a few other shade-lovers will thrive there, but for now the trillium and violets and woodruff enjoy their moments of glory. Above are some Virginia bluebells, bleeding hearts, and an early Jack-in-the-pulpit (surrounded by a wire cage to prevent inadvertent trampling by children exploring the woods).
