When I posted some pix of
visually interesting castles, CCL commented about the Chateau de Chenonceau, the history of which dates back to the 15th century. Today I checked the
Chateau's website - it is stunning. If you go to the pull-down menus, you can tour the buildings and the gardens using
panoramic photos. Nicely done.
You like that castle? Check out the castle of Monsanto, Portugal, which is built out of the huge granite stones of the hill it's perched on.

The town below is built among these stones.

Some of the photos you'll find will look photoshopped, but they're not--I've been there! This is one of most beautiful and eerie places on earth.
Very interesting. I've put the Flickr set into my folder of bookmarks for TYWKIWDBI. It'll be a long time before I get to it, however... Thanks for the headsup.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked 'em. The end of this dispatch details a visit to that castle, if you're interested . . .

Portugal is two thirds the size of Illinois, but sports over 200 castles. Imagine Farmer City with its own moat and drawbridge . . .
That brings back memories. I went to Chateau de Chenonceau during my teens while I was on holiday with my parents. We made a slight navigational error and nearly drove into the river...
