Was the NYC flyover photo Photoshopped?

J-Walk has found a website that suggests the official White House flyover photo may have been Photoshopped, offering as evidence an assertion that there are two flags (created through the use of a clone tool).

I don't buy it. I've used the clone tool, and am not convinced that this is an example of that artifact. Nor can I comprehend why the copy-and-paste of an aircraft onto a stock photo of the island would require any cloning touch-up.

If someone really wants to test the veracity of this photo, they should note that the flagpole casts a shadow like the gnomon of a sundial. Go out to the island, note what time the shadow is in that position, and see if it corresponds to the flyover incident.

The rationale for the flyover still puzzles me, and "conspiracy theory" is often fun and interesting. But this particular offering seems farfetched.

  1. My blog is not a "fringe site." We provide extensive research and analysis on political, social, and cultural issues. In fact, we received dozens of nominations for "best new blog," same as you. The Air Force One analysis was presented by a reader who is a graphics specialist, and it was presented as a series of questions, not as fact. Perhaps you should read the post, and the blog, more carefully before being so judgmental.
