I was never aware of the urban legend that it was modeled after a peregrine. It was simply a thought, but I believe it could be a case of convergent evolution between human design and nature.
If that shape is aerodynamic (which it is) then both planes and birds could take that form, if they are both trying to avoid detection (which they are, be it radar or vision) then the thinnest possible profile would probably look like this, especially considering both the bird and the plane have to carry payload and equipment (poop, and organs). It's simply what works!
nature has some really sleek designs, but they are difficult to build. the peregrine shaped airplane was possible because of technology innovations and software to control it.

Inspiration for the B2 bomber profile?
ReplyDeleteKorkee: I believe so, yes.
ReplyDeleteDiscussed (and largely dismissed) at the link.
Delete:-) the falcon saw the B2B profile and said 'time to mutate into something sleeker.'. :-)
