Several weeks ago I blogged a TED talk about DaVinci's face. Mademoiselle Titam has kindly pointed out to me that after that lecture was recorded, another portrait has been advanced as a possible representation of the face of Leonardo.
The damaged oil-on-panel portrait was discovered by Nicola Barbatelli, a medieval historian, while he was researching the archive and picture collection of an aristocratic family at Acerenza... in the southern Italian region of Basilicata....
... the 60cm-by-44cm (24in-by-17in) painting could even be a self-portrait, since it bore on the back the words “Pinxit Mea” written in reverse, which was one of Leonardo’s trademarks. “We know that Leonardo had ties to a Florentine family, the Segnis, who had property in Acerenza in the Sixteenth Century... ”
Only one self-portrait of da Vinci is widely accepted as authentic, a red chalk on paper 1512 drawing held at the Biblioteca Reale (Royal Library) in Turin, which shows him in old age [left image in the pair above].
It seems they've found another portrait of Leonardo da Vinci on the windows of Arezzo's Cathedral in Tuscany, Italy:

ReplyDeleteCari amici, il 5 Giugno 2009 a Roma a Piazza Del Popolo, sono state esibite tutte le indagini eseguite sul dipinto raffigurante il volto di Leonardo, ritrovato ultimamente.
ReplyDeleteDalle indagini si stabilisce che il dipinto è del 1495 circa, realizzato con un disegno preparatorio eseguito con la tecnica della sanguigna ed il volto dell'uomo (secondo il Prof. Festa dell'Universita' di Chieti) è Leonardo Da Vinci.
Ma una grandissima notizia è che sulle vernici sono state individuate dal Prof. Capasso dell'Universita' di Chieti, tre impronte digitali di Leonardo!
Lo studio delle impronte è stato in passato eseguito su opere come "La Dama con l'Ermellino" e la "Gioconda".
Ormai non ci sono piu dubbi: E L'AUTORITRATTO DI LEONARDO.
