I was previously surprised to discover that there were
Swedish bagpipes in Medieval times. Today I was reminded that bagpipes are part of a modern tradition in Palestine. It's a treasured residuum of the scouts and marching bands introduced during the British mandate. The above are screencaps from an interesting
audio slideshow at the BBC.
I have a CD of Latvian bagpipe music.

It's interesting to see they adopted the instrument in this way.
ReplyDeleteBut bagpipes are everywhere I guess. Like a friend, who plays the Breton bagpipe, says "If there are goats and sheep around, there sure will be bagpipes"
See, in northern Turkey -on the Black Sea coast- a type of bapipe -
tulum- is also very popular.
