A bathing pavilion at Gordon Park, Cleveland (Ohio), one hundred years ago. I understand that ladies had to wear bathing dresses, but I remain a little perplexed that men didn't (?couldn't) reveal a bare torso while swimming.
The wallpaper-size version is viewable at Shorpy.
a gentleman couldn't even go out in just a shirt back then. they had to wear a waistcoat/vest and a suit jacket.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't just ladies in long skirts and corsets who suffered.
