I found an interesting online quiz, in which a ten-second video clip shows someone reading a couple lines from Kipling. You are then asked what the person's accent is.
It's not an easy quiz, in part because the clips are so brief, but also because the distinctions must be subtle (especially for an American). Distinguishing German from English from Russian would be one thing, but this quiz challenges you with German vs. Swiss vs. Austria vs. Poland on one clip and Wales vs. N.Z. vs. England vs. South Africa on another, and Estonia vs. Lithuania etc.
I didn't do well (my score was 20 out of I think 68 max). Cousin Karl in Barcelona, have a go...

how did you get 20 if the points are accrued in groups of 3...?
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple questions where, if you get it right, you can get 2 bonus points for being more specific (which state in the U.S., which part of Australia etc).
