The tops of these two tables are the same shape

They are both parallelograms with identical lengths, widths, and angles.  I enhanced the illusion by referring to them as tables, but they really are identical.

You won't believe me.  You'll need to view the graphic at Digg, or read about the Shepard tabletop illusion.

  2. They are both rectangular, therefore they are the same shape.

    1. and here i was measuring the sides. d'oh!

p.s. these kinds of puzzles should be outlawed. they are not about the question, but the question of the question - i.e., second term puzzles. i usually miss those. :-(

  3. Even after watching the animation, I didn't believe it. I could "see" the green shape being squished as it was rotated. But I took a screenshot, cut out both shapes into separate images, rotated the green shape 45 degrees, and it matched the red shape exactly.
