Circumhorizontal arc
Colloquially known as a "fire rainbow." This one hovered over Madison, Wisconsin yesterday. It had more vivid coloration a minute before I was able to take the photo, and it faded from view a couple minutes later.
I was a poor student all throughout school, but I will always remember the day I learned that there were cloud classifications. It caught my imagination in a way that no schoolwork had before. They named the clouds! I still love clouds, and the beautiful atmospheric effects that accompany them. Thank you for these pictures.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your catch! This one's still on my to-watch list, but in order to see one I need to travel further south.
