I didn't realize this was possible, but a comment at the via avers that it is: "I know nothing about trees but I do design signs as part of my job and can confirm that the sign is a sheet of aluminum with a polymer film stuck onto it. It's not uncommon for the sheeting to start to peel off signs after enough time, so it's entirely plausible that a tree could start growing between the sheet aluminum and the sheeting."
