"The survey, released Wednesday, shows that 11.5% of U.S. holiday shoppers say they plan not to spend anything on gifts and services this holiday. That’s up from 4.9% in 2020 and 2.9% the previous year. It’s the highest in at least 10 years, according to Rod Sides, a vice chairman of Deloitte.For those who don’t plan to spend, almost two-thirds make less than $50,000 a year, according to Deloitte. About one in eight of the non-spenders make $100,000 or more.Their hardship may not show in nationwide spending numbers. The top 10% of earners make up nearly half of personal outlays in the U.S., according to calculations by Wells Fargo & Co. earlier this year."

After watching a segment on CNN where a Republican family pretends to be poor folks who cannot afford food, I'm wondering how many of the "I ain't gonna buy no presents!" people are just saying that to make some anti-Biden noise.
ReplyDeleteNot that I think there aren't real people struggling... and the pandemic-related supply chain issues are still in swing (making it harder to find a present even if you do intend to buy).
Myself, I almost never buy gifts for Xmas these days... putting more energy into baking and hosting gatherings.
What does a conman's political affiliation have to do with anything? I hate CNN and FOX. This has all become so stupid. And to think someone would believe that there are not people like that on both sides... You know, on second thought, I've got a nice bridge I'd love to sell you.
DeleteI'm sure there are people on whatever side (there's more than two) who would lie about whatever to get their agenda across... which is why I increasingly don't trust polls.
DeleteI've been lobbying my family to stop with the gift giving for years. We generally don't buy anything unless necessary. The nephews get cash wrapped in a way to make them work for it like difficult to open boxes or, last year, an online treasure hunt that led to clues that gave the code for a padlock.
