"Things You Wouldn't Know If We Didn't Blog Intermittently."
A few years back, I had to figure out who / what were the Aland Islands when I saw their name appear on the 'country visits from' list for my blog.
The story goes that when the League of Nations representatives came to Finland to decide on the matter, Finns made sure to ferry the delegates from Finnish to Åland making sure that the ubiquitous islands are always visible. Then they they took the delegates from Åland to Stockhom - which is open sea. This to give an impression that the island is more tightly linked to Finland mainland.
on a map, the aland islands DO look like they are more tightly linked to finland than sweden. I-)
