Alpine road in winter
The Stelvio pass, South Tyrol, with Mount Scorluzzo on the right. Photograph: Stelvio National Park. Via a Guardian article on WWI relics emerging from melting European glaciers. I was just impressed that someone keeps this road open in the winter.
The road is closed in winter, usually from November until the end of May. In April, they start to clear it.
ReplyDeletei am impressed that in WWI, those peaks and passes were considered important and strategic enough to be guarded.
