Note, since its hard shelled they let the nut fall to the ground, and then it is swept up.

In this case, note the use of a mechanical "reverse umbrella" fruit catcher. That speeds things up instead of having to have workers spread a catcher under each tree.
I've seen similar mechanical shakers used.

DeletePecan trees are also shook for their fruit, I would expect other crops are also harvested this way..... just can't think of any others at the moment.
