A decade or so ago, Language Log was one of my must-read blogs. I was a math teacher but sometimes had to cover Language Arts classes and I used material from the blog to make "emergency" work for when a teacher did not leave enough work to keep the students busy. LINGUISTICS PROFESSOR: In English, a double negative forms a positive. In Russian, a double negative remains a negative. But there isn't a single language in which a double positive can express a negative.
