My ex-wife may reinforce this, but I take a much quicker route. And got the answer wrong.
I slipped them all into decimals and did the simple maths. My answer is 0.23333, not quite a quarter, in fact a whole 0.01666-7 away, but given the time it took me to work it out and the time taken in the video (lucid has the new meaning of lengthy ?) I reckon my way is acceptable.
I apologise for my opening humour, it may not transpose into American English.
0.5 * {[1/1 - 1/3] + [1/3-1/5] + ...} - 0.5 * {[1/2 - 1/4] + [1/4-2/6] + ...}
ReplyDelete= 0.5 - 0.5(1/2)
= 1/4
In English?

You quit too soon. You would have gotten the exact answer if you had continued adding decimals for an infinite amount of time.
