J-Walk today has an entry about the Riley Lincook cars of 1933, which featured a roof segment which raised up when the door was opened, facilitating entry into a low-slung car and decreasing the risk of head injury while doing so.
My first thought on seeing the photo was the resemblance to
gull-wing doors, which didn't appear until the Mercedes Benz 300SL of 1950 (photo at right), and were later made famous in the De Lorean from the future.
