Horsetail Fall is a small, ephemeral waterfall that flows over the eastern edge of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. For two weeks in February, the setting sun striking the waterfall creates a deep orange glow that resembles Yosemite's historic "Firefall."Via BoingBoing.
Thank you, Stan!
ReplyDeleteThe word ephemeral as incorrectly used. Perhaps you meant ethereal.
ReplyDeleteThe word ephemeral is correctly used. The term refers to a waterfall that is not present year-round (typically ones that result from runoff from melting snow).

ReplyDeleteEphemera is transitory written and printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek, meaning things lasting no more than a day. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, stock certificates, tickets and zines. Decks of personality identification playing cards from the war in Iraq are a recent example.
Thanks for posting this as I don't think I would have known about this otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThis was so beautiful and soothing to watch. I've got my windows open and the birds are tweeting, so I've even got some extra sound tracks.
