With no heat, I've love to see the math justifying this claim. The reason is the densely populated eastern coast of China is in the dark. Similarly, while the US has most of its population east of the Mississippi, California with over 10% of the US population is on the west coast, in the dark in this map.
And Indonesia with a population of over 280 Million is also in the dark.
With a world population of around 8 billion, 1 percent in the dark would be only 80 million. Indonesia alone would break this rule..
If you enter this into AI, it is a gross exaggeration to say 99% were in sunlight, since it omits California, Japan, etc etc I think the estimated percentage is about 90% of slightly below.

The east coast of China is not in the dark on the map. It's in twilight (the graded colors). True astronomical darkness is marked by the black area.
