Absolutely amazing. Imagine being a human actor viewing this and wondering what your future holds re
employment. Imagine what fake celebrity porn must look like now. Imagine how unsophisticated viewers can now be duped into believing false realities re their political leaders. Imagine being able to create one of your own using generative AI...
Addendum: I'm now seeing a "Video Unavailable" message in place of the video. I'll see if I can find a workaround for the embed. In the meantime, you can view it at this Reddit thread. And if that disappears, try Googling "The AI movie Pi Hard shows Neil deGrasse Tyson teaming up with Sam Bankman-Fried to stop an evil Stephen Hawking from destroying the multiverse by dividing by zero. Bill Gates is a robot and Elon Musk is panicking."
Just found this on YouTube. Don't know if it will stay up... I gotta go do yard and garden chores.
We are doing this to ourselves. Same with AI music. We shouldn't have started with CGI and now here we are. People said they liked the banality of Transformers and Avatar, and now they're going to watch AI films. Utter dross. I blame the Enlightenment, that was the first step.
ReplyDeleteIf you watch closely there are still some problems, but they are getting pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThe tipping point will come when they can do longer scenes.
In whole this example is mostly a success due to the creativity of the producers.
If you check around there is an interview with Tyson where he whole heartedly approves of the results, and denies any prior involvement
I'd watch it.... as long as all the actors (or their estates) signed off.
ReplyDeleteIs this much different than Jurassic Park and Avatar?
ReplyDeleteOther than that the faces are from existing people instead of dinosaurs?
I see these imitations not much different than newspapers making up fake quotes before there was radio and TV. This is not that new.
Codex@ Nepkarel very different. Real actors reacting to imaginary creatures we'd never experience otherwise.
DeleteStan, do you remember Simone? The very mediocre Pacino movie?
Codex, I have not seen Simone. One movie that does come to mind is an old (2004) Tom Hanks film called The Polar Express that didn't use AI but presented a technique called motion capture that looked to be in the uncanny gap between real life and animated fantasy.
DeleteCodex didn't hit publish. Watch Simone very mediocre but the idea back in 2002???
DeleteFinal fantasy is very good. Also motion capture. Polar express disturbing but replacing actors altogether? No.
I'm tempted to say that old no longer applies. Some have aged well and were ahead of their time.
P.s. we can still call these movies by the actors names Hanks Sutherland, but admiring Simone, the nonexistent actress?
DeleteCodex; Serkis on Gollum inspired by his cats hairball.

Brilliant.
The Grimes poster behind Elon in the bedroom cracked me up.

ReplyDeleteDid anyone else notice "Fat JD Vance" as a police officer in the trailer?
