I first encountered these when I bought my first house in 1994. They were in every room. We had to get an adapter to use a regular house phone. The house was so small I don't understand why the previous owner ever thought she needed more than one outlet. We certainly didn't need but one outlet, because by 1994, cordless phones were a thing.
In my current house, I don't even have a land line connected to the house.
Born in 1956. Lived with them all my life. Which may have been influenced by the house I was born in having been wired by my grandfather the first generation of TV repairman (and ex Bell employee)
