Best-selling children's paperbacks in 1990

Found this smudged photocopied list in my files.  Saved at the time because of the odd (though perhaps not surprising) distribution of title names.   Source unknown - maybe Harper's magazine.

I wonder what a comparable listing would look like today.  Perhaps some reader/librarian can come up with ideas or a link.

  1. "Mary Anne and Too Many Boys"? Doesn't sound like a children's book to me! But it does remind me of a joke that Christopher Hitchens used to tell, which I consider to contain one the finest puns of all time:

Q: Why did the Amish girl get shunned?

    A: Too Mennonite!

  2. For the younger readers a lot of Mo Willems (Elephant and Piggie, and the Pigeon Books), for the slightly older Captain Underpants, Dog Man, Wings of Fire, Warriors and Percy Jackson is still very popular.

  3. The list is turtles, all the way down!
