This is why children should play outdoors

"Hand print on a large TSA plate from my 8 1/2 year old son after playing outside."

  1. Not to be contrarian, but I wonder what an 'indoor playing' handprint would reveal?

  2. Studies have been done to show that children exposed to all kinds of bacteria and viruses are healthier than children who are shielded from them.

  3. Barbwire,

I am not convinced that shielding children from bacteria and viruses is even possible. That's why I was wondering what an indoor "hand sample" would look like. How many more viruses do people get exposed to outdoors than indoors? I would wager it depends on the type of cleaners and how often people clean their homes. In fact, I would guess that sometimes being indoors exposes us to more bacteria than outdoors.

Having said all of that, there are other compelling reasons that cause me to send my kids outside every day. :)
