The fact that these people were specifically targeted, and were targeted because they were humanitarian aid workers is particularly appalling, and deserves not only censure but also prosecution as a war crime. More on this later.
It has been alleged and denied that they were targeted. Do you think there will be definitive evidence? I am also dubious that three separate cars were accidentally struck but these things are difficult to truly prove
ReplyDeleteI will look for more evidence and documentation before I write further on this subject, but note these points:
Delete1) They did not die in the collapse of a building or amid widespread devastation of a massive bomb.
2) They died when a missile went through the roof of their vehicles.
3) Modern missiles of this type are "smart" and often individually guided. They can be directed to hit a certain part of a certain vehicle or a certain window in a certain building.
4) The logo of WCK was written on the roof of the vehicle.
5) The route of the vehicles and their purpose had previously been documented with Israeli authorities.
I think the only argument is how high up the authorization chain this goes. A low-level person or two will take the heat, but such persons do not make these decisions on their own.
I think it's a war crime that should be pursued just as the Nazis were prosecuted at Nuremberg.
Agreed, but with the connotation that this particular war crime is a relatively small one in a long list of crimes against humanity in this gruesome conflict. These 7 are not more important than the 7 thousand and 30 thousand other people who were needlessly slaughtered.

DeleteBottom line: Israel exacts revenge at about 100:1. Standard. Not to mention apartheid and continual land theft since inception. The Nakba and then the ongoing colonization of the West Bank tell the moral story. Failed colonial experiment, now sucking us into WW 3. "Sucking": not that we're innocent. We US citizens have more blood on our hands than anyone in the world; Israel is our demented, pampered offspring with an iron grip on Washington.
