This 44-year-old Forestry Service ranger was in his back yard, clearing weeds, when he saw a rattlesnake. He went to the garage to get his shotgun.
When he returned to shoot the rattlesnake, he disturbed a nest of yellowjackets, which boiled up out of the ground and attacked him.
As he turned to run away, the shotgun went off, destroying his knee. He fell to the ground.
That's when the rattlesnake bit him...
