LED color temperature infographic

Found at Wirecutter (with discussion); saved because I keep forgetting and need to look this up.

  1. I have one LED light bulb which looks like your 6500K. It stands out (white-blue) because all the other bulbs in the house are 3000K (mellowish yellow).

There also the issue of wattage - a 60W LED bulb is not as bright as a 60W incandescent.

  2. A criticism of the info graphic: the higher the color temperature does not mean the bulb is brighter, only has more blue and less yellow light. A low and a high color temperature can be equally bright.

  3. Recently, I was trying to take a series of similar photos with my phone in order to illustrate the various colors of white. My phone photos all came out looking the same because the phone compensated by automatically adjusting the exposure and the white balance. In the end, I had to use a real camera with manual settings to get the variations I needed.

  4. Really drives home that sunlight is yellow while clouds (and air, but less so) are blue.
