New collegiate sports record

One of my cousins in Florida offered the opinion that the young man is clearly enjoying the academic life in Miami.  There are, obviously, mitigating circumstances (injuries, Covid) for these increasingly-common extended tenures, but the headline immediately called to my mind John Belushi's lament in Animal House: "Seven years of college down the drain."

  1. 2023 was his first year at Miami. His previous 7 years he was at Oregon. He has a Bachelor's degree in journalism and a Master's degree in advertising from Oregon. He is in a postbaccalaureate program at Miami.

In addition to his injury issues in college, he also missed most of his senior season in high school with a knee injury. Maybe his body is trying to tell him something...

The tuition at Miami is about $58,000/year. I wonder if he has a scholarship there?

  2. What's remarkable, to me anyway, is that he's only 25.

    1. McCormick came to Oregon the same year as Justin Herbert. Herbert recently completed his 4th year in the NFL, with the Chargers. They were born 23 days apart in 1988.

  3. Reminds me of a quote from the movie Tommy Boy -
Tommy: You know a lot of people go to college for seven years.
Richard: I know, they're called doctors.

    1. My daughter is in her eighth year of college. We call her doctor. But she's about to graduate, and is terrified of life without school after 22 years straight.

  4. Someone said, "With hard work, I was able to press four years of college into ten years of college."
