Muslim fundamentalists are not "frightened" so much as they are passionate about retaining traditions which employ a hierarchical structure unlike our own. The business of Americans should be to examine our own hierarchical structure, within which there are many horrors. Look at our prisons, homelessness, declining life expectancy, grinding poverty, dehumanizing labor, brutality toward animals--both domestic and those animals dependent on declining ecosystems, etc. Our house is not in order, but we love the distraction of Three Cups of Tea cultural imperialism. Especially affluent liberals seeking to deflect culpability for much of our domestic horror show--particularly in the environmental realm via grotesque material consumption. Economic injustice serves the propertied class, across the political spectrum. Malala is an NPR liberal-type icon in the eyes of the same liberals that won't stand for the human rights of our own homeless people. Here I'm talking about my California city of about 100,000. A small window, but a window nonetheless.

We keep hearing women are victims of an unjust system, but according to an article in today’s MarketWatch: by 2030 women will control two-thirds of US wealth (with very rich women controlling most of that two-thirds). Oh my! Are there oppressed women? Yes. They stand side-by-side with poor, oppressed and exploited working class men of all colors. Gender grievance identity politics fails again. Oppression by gender is a fraud. When will the working CLASS wake-up?
It's not an either or issue. There are many oppressed groups who all experience different struggles. As a woman in math I can assure you that oppression by gender is alive and well.
