When you don't know you're poor

  1. it wasn't until probably my late 20's that i came to the realization that we (i) grew up closer to 'poor' than 'middle class'. i also realized that it wasn't all that bad.

  3. When I was a kid, I always felt like I had more than the other kids. At Christmas, I'd get so many presents! I found out when I was around 20 that back then we'd qualified for food stamps and multiple other services. My parents were buying small toys and wrapping them individually in creative ways so I would always feel like I was getting a lot.

    My mom was in school, worked, sold crafts on weekends, couponed like crazy, and managed to make me never feel lacking. Much owed.
