A "fairy fly" and other incredible light microscopic images

Pictured above are some of this year's entries in the light microphotography contest held by Olympus.

The top image is a "fairy fly" wasp that is only 1/25th the size of an ant. Below that is a bladderwort, which looks to me like it is ingesting a ??mosquito larva? Below that is Triochodina pediculus (a freshwater protist), and on the bottom seeds of Aurinia (of the familiar alyssum family that we have by our front porch).

Credit for these images is posted at the Olympus website, which also hosts dozens more photos plus galleries of entries for the previous four years. Great viewing for anyone who has ever looked through a microscope, or just admires the beauty of the natural world.
