I'm just going to straight-up say it; if it's legal/moral/ethical for the US to mount a boots-on-ground operation in a foreign nation to kidnap their leader and haul them off to be charged with vague, unspecified crimes... then it's also legal/moral/ethical for another country to do it to us. And we've done that. So... would someone please do it to us, and arrest the ACTUAL CONVICTED CRIMINAL that is in office somehow? Thank you.
I've always been badgered by people about the "check and balanced" in the US constitution when my immigrant self found weird quirks in the political system. "You're from a monarchy, you can't speak to any of this".....
Well, where are those checks and balances now? And how the hell did all the gun rights people who wanted their guns to prevent the government from becoming tyrannical join the damn government to be icecold tyrannical?
Anyway, thank you for taking those arguments off the table. Don't need to hear that bullshit anymore.
FYI: The Dutch monarch is monarch by fiat of parliament. He does not get coronated, but has to come to a joint session of parliament to be inaugurated - sworn in. He never gets the crown on his head. And he can be fired by parliament. [And the same is true for the King of the Belgians who isn't even King of Belgium]
And that almost happened when Queen Juliana's husband Prince Bernhard got a bit corrupt with a small American company called Lockheed Martin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_bribery_scandals#The_Netherlands
tldr: Prince B got money form LM to suggest the govt to buy some LM toys. Govt wanted to start a criminal investigation. And while Prince B was a totally corrupt philanderer with 3 extramarital kids, he was also charming as hell and very popular, and Queen J truly loved the man, so she threatened to resign. In the end the govt found a creative way to punish Prince B by taking his military honors away, which hurt his pride more than any criminal conviction would have - he was very much a WWII resistance hero (not to mention a member of the SS before his marriage).
In the end the Queen did not get fired, but it was seriously considered - her daughter Beatrix was 37 and could have pick up the crown. In the end, I think the govt didn't dare to fire the Queen since the monarchy was, and is, quite popular. They didn't want to take the hit for the Prince's corruption - in the Dutch system the govt is responsible for the Monarch (and her spouse).
That's not going to happen. What could happen is random people entering schools or school buses, hospitals or shopping malls and firing on people indiscriminately with weapons they picked up locally and legally. Why it won't happen? Currently Iran wants to embarrass America. If they actually hurt America on its home turf it'll turn the population against the Iranian cause. OTOH, Iran's leadership is fragmented and most Americans don't care about Iranians anyway. Who knows what will go down? Imagine being an American going to work while your kids are at school and having that constant nagging worry they're going to be murdered, just like in Palestine. I'm from Northern Ireland. We had a peace process, after a lot of people got killed including those in the bombing of the Conservative Party Conference in 1983. The IRA was responsible. Largely funded by Americans.
