I live in the Hudson Valley of NY. We have had auroras down this far multiple times over the last year + a few months. I was at the Ashokan Reservoir to see them 10/11/2024 and can attest to hearing the crackling sound. The odd thing is I have moderate hearing loss with tinnitus yet I heard the crackles distinctly so I'm not sure what frequency they were but obviously not the ones that are damaged in my hearing. There was also a very faint burning smell. I first though someone had lit a joint but no one was smoking anything out there.
Fascinating!! I can well believe there are sounds. TFS
