All of these xrays were taken at one level 1 trauma center. The comment thread at the radiology subreddit is largely anecdotal and uninteresting, but one comment was salient - lots of people wake up the morning of the 4th of July not realizing that this will be their last day with two good hands.
When you consider the harm that can come from fireworks, it makes me wonder if liberals might not want to add fireworks to guns when considering things all to easy to get one's hands on.
ReplyDeleteI had a 15 year career as a pyrotechnician, and I learned that all of these injuries were caused by illegal fireworks and improper use (failure to follow instructions). Many years ago the United States put limits on the amount of explosive material allowed in consumer fireworks. A legal firecracker which goes off in the hand will not remove a finger, but it will sting like hell (You still should not light a firecracker while holding it.) All other fireworks have instructions which include not holding them in the hand while lighting them. Professionals do not hold roman candles because they know that any firework may explode unexpectedly. So maybe we should make stupidity illegal instead of fireworks and guns.
ReplyDeletei'm soooo pleased that i was able to convince my 'baby brother' years ago (aauugh, DECADES ago...) to get whatever training and certification was necessary to be a pyrotech. he 'played' with fireworks too dangerously, but before harm was done, he LISTENED! he now travels the country ENJOYING putting on BIG shows safely. from a proud big sis...
DeleteAhh... if we could only find a cure for stupidity......just imagine the ills that would cure!
DeleteUnderdeveloped frontal lobes strikes again.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, we would hold "chicken farts" by the tips of our fingernails and light them off.
ReplyDeletep.s. "chicken farts" were firecrackers that were maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long. If you held one to close to your fingertips, it felt like you had squeezed your fingertips together very hard and left a tingly feeling for a 5 or 10 minutes.

ReplyDeleteApparently that's a fake conversation.
DeleteSadly, no. The Jerky Boys make prank calls...and off they go. Ethics be damned. Many on YouTube, from maybe 30 years ago. There's a cult following. Sick and twisted people find them funny. I've only listened to "Sol's Nude Beach" and "Civil War Paraphernalia" 25 times for sociological purposes.
DeleteIf both ends of the conversation are staged, so that the person receiving the emergency call is part of the joke, that's fine. But if these guys are calling real ambulance services etc to create these audios to market, then I consider that cheap clickbaIt trash and the perpetrators to be scum.
DeleteAll the earmarks of sociopaths, IMO. This could certainly compromise the comic effect. May be a stretch, but I'll compare it to eating bacon: it matters not if the flavor is good, the moral dimension makes any appreciation impossible. I can well understand taking umbrage at this kind of comedy.
