In a studio with separate mics, and a complicated control board manned by talented techs, producing that blended sound would be a real achievement. Live, onstage, sharing a mic, it's damned near a miracle, clearly unequaled talent. xoxoxoBruce
Sure, i know the song, have known it for 5 decades. Much like knowing a person known from a particular place or group. Running into them in some other place- you may struggle to make the connection. i paused the Stills guitar quotation in this vid and replayed it to hear the changes again. Could not initially place it into CSN(Y)s body of work. Naturally. Since Within,Without You is by another well known group and guitarist. For me, that little bit was the most intriguing piece of this performance. I got to see these 3 on stage in upstate NY September 1984. this was the period between Crosby’s conviction and his entering prison. more than a few of us worried he would not be around for long at that time. This vid from 21st century proves he was even a stronger, more passionate person than many expected in those days.
Their 1984 Binghamton concert was a good show, with that tangible tension among committed artists who still are passionate about their performances. Still recall several moments from that evening- their vocals- which were electric.
Brilliant!!! Thanks for reminding me of it.
ReplyDeleteI saw them live in 2010, and they did this then...
